NSU convocation 15th convocation tomorrow

The 15th convocation of North South University will be held at the Convocation Plaza on its campus at Bashundhara in the city tomorrow, says a press release.

President Zillur Rahman, also the chancellor of NSU, will attend the convocation as the chief guest and award degrees to 1074 students.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will be present as the special guest while Prof Dr Mathana Santiwat, president of Bangkok University, Thailand, will deliver the convocation speech.

A cultural programme will be held in the second session.

North South University: Admission Requirements

Application Form

Students interested in attending NSU should send cash or a bank draft or payorder for Taka 800 or US$20 or equivalent to the Accounts Office for an application form and instructions concerning the admissions process. The student should return the completed application form to the Registrar's Office. [Click Here to Download Sample Admission Form] All correspondence and inquiries concerning admission to the University should be addressed to this office.

Applications for admission into undergraduate programs are processed by the University and selected applicants are called to an Admission Test These tests are administered for the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters, usually two months before classes begin. Test dates are published in local newspapers. Accepted applicants must secure their admission by paying the Admission Fee within the announced deadline. Tuition and other fees are due before registering for courses.

Admissions Advising
On weekdays from Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm the Registrar's Office advises prospective students and their guardians regarding admission. Campus offices are closed on Fridays. Students and parents are always welcome and encouraged to visit the campus for individual advising.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

The minimum qualifications for admission into these programs are:

1. Academic Qualifications:
a) Second division in both SSC and HSC or a minimum GPA of 3.5 in both SSC and HSC exams.
b) GCE O-level and A-level:
O-level in five subjects with Average Grade Point of 2.5 or above and A-level in two subjects with Average Grade Point of 2.0 and above; in the scale of A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 & E=1. (one E is acceptable)
c) A US High School Diploma or equivalent.
Requirements may be changed anytime if there is a change in admission policy.
2. Acceptable scores in NSU's admission test.
3. Admission test will be waived for those who have got a minimum score of 1200 in SAT (Math+ Critical Reading) and 550 ( CBT 213/IBT 79) in TOEFL or 5.5 in IELTS.
4. HSC/A-level (appeared) candidates may sit for the admission test on the basis of an undertaking that they will not be admitted unless they pass the HSC/A level exams with minimum GPA requirement which will be mentioned in the Admission Offer Letter. A-level appeared student must submit their Statement of Entry.

Application forms are available for Tk. 800 from NSU Accounts, in the Front Office, Level 1, Bashundhara. One can also download application form from NSU website: www.northsouth.edu.
A Bank draft of Tk. 800 in favor of North South University will be needed during submission of Application Form, downloaded from website. A complete application includes:

Filled out applicatoin form;
four passport size photographs (attested*);
clean copies of certificates and mark-sheets;
two letters of recommendation/testimonial from previous institution; and
Photocopy of National ID Card. * Photographs should be attested by first class gazzetted officer or Principal/Head of the Department of the last academic institution attended.

Graduate Admission Requirements
The minimum qualifications for admission to Graduate programs are:

MBA Program:

A four-year Bachelor or a three-year Honors degree or a Master’s degree in any discipline
At least Second Class (45% or above) in all exams or a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale
Qualifying in NSU admission test or minimum score of 550 (CBT 213) in both TOEFL & GMAT
Waiver of admission for candidates with undergraduate GPA of 3.8 or above from NSU Executive MBA Program:

A four-year Bachelor or a three-year Honors degree or a Master’s degree in any discipline
At least Second Class in all exams or a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale
At least five years of continuous work experience as executive (eight years for those with a two-year Bachelor degree) M.Sc in Biotechnology:
A four-year Bachelor or a three-year Honors degree or a Master's degree in life sciences, agriculture or a Bachelors degree in Medical & Surgery (MBBS).
At least Second Class in all exams or a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale. Masters in Public Health:
MBBS, BDS or equivalent professional degree in medical sciences (dentistry, alternate medicine, homeopathy, unani etc.), or
Four year undergraduate degree from a recognized university in life sciences, social sciences, anthropology and psychology, or
Masters degree in health related subject or in any social science, management and other science subjects, or
A two year graduation in nursing from any recognized university after duly completed four years registered nursing course from government recognized institute.
At least Second Class in all exams or a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale. MS in CSE:

A 4-year bachelors or equivalent degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Computer Science and Engineering/Information Technology or any computer related areas from anaccredited public or private university in Bangladesh or abroad with a grade point average of at least 3.0 (in the 4.0 scale). Students having a CGPA of less than 3.0 may be considered if the GRE Computer Science subject test score is submitted.

Acceptable scores in NSU Admission Test or a scores of 1100 in the Quantitative and Verbal part of the Graduate Record Examination(GRE) General Test.
Three letters of recommendation, at least two must be from the faculty members of the last institution attended. MS in ETE:
A 4-year bachelors or equivalent degree in Mathematics, Applied Physics, Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Information Communication Technology from an accredited public or private university in Bangladesh or abroad with a grade point average of at least 2.5 (in the 4.0 scale) or minimum of 2nd class in BSc-Hons/MSc.
Acceptable scores in NSU Admission Test or a scores of 1100 in the Quantitative and Verbal part of the Graduate Record Examination(GRE) General Test.
Three letters of recommendation, at least two must be from the faculty members of the last institution attended. Master in Development Studies:
A Second Class in a three years’ Bachelor degree OR A Second Class in Master degree.
Degree should be in Economics, Business, Environmental Studies, Social Welfare, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Public administration or other related subjects from any recognized university. MS in Economics:
At least a Second Class either in the Bachelor (Hons.) or Master degree in Economics or in relevant disciplines from any recognized university. Masters in English Language, Literature & TESOL:
At least a second class in a three years’ B. A. in English
Four years’ B. A. in English with a GPA of at least 2.50
M. A. or MS in subjects of liberal arts & social sciences

Admission of International Applicants
For purposes of admission, all persons who are not citizens or permanent residents of Bangladesh are defined as international applicants. In most cases international applicants seeking admission into NSU must meet the same academic standards for admission, as those required for native students. There are wide variations; however, between educational systems throughout the world that makes exact comparison of educational standards difficult.

International applicants are selected on the basis of their prior academic work, English proficiency, probability of success in the chosen curriculum (as evidenced by prior work in the academic area involved), and certification of adequate financial resources.

Transfer Students
Transfer students (those with previous college credits) are expected to have at least a 2.0 (C) GPA in all college level courses to be considered for admission to the University. Catalogs and official transcripts from previously attended colleges and universities must be furnished with the application for admission. Failure to provide either will disqualify the applicant. To be official, transcripts must be sent directly from each college attended to the NSU Registrar's Office. Hand carried transcripts and transcripts sent by students are unofficial, even though they may carry the college seal or signatures that are placed on official records.

Credit Transfer
A student may transfer a maximum of 60 credits earned at previously attended colleges and universities toward NSU degrees. Transcripts from all previously attended institutions must be submitted. Only credits on which a student has earned the grade C or above will be transferable to NSU. For purposes of transferring credits, Directors of programs and Chairs of departments will determine equivalence of courses and may also refer cases to the Equivalence Committee if needed. Transferred credits and grades are not included in calculating the GPA at NSU.

Provisional Admission
NSU may tentatively accept applicants for admission who cannot produce official transcripts by the first week of classes, such admissions are provisional. All provisional students who enter the University without complete credentials for admission will be required to submit the appropriate credentials as a prerequisite for continued enrollment. Required credentials must be submitted within the semester of initial enrollment.

Non-degree Students
Applicants 'who have not participated in formal education for some time or applicants who do not intend to become candidates for a degree may register for credits in undergraduate courses as non-degree students. Applicants are admitted as non-degree students on a semester by semester basis without any obligation to continue. Such students may apply at any time for transfer to a degree program with/without the credits earned as non-degree students. Non degree students may obtain transcripts reflecting credits for the semester(s) attended. A transcript fee will be charged.

Fraudulent Applications
Individuals who provide fraudulent information on applications for admission or readmission are subject to immediate dismissal from the university.

The Financial Aid Cell of North South University understands that you and your family have been planning a lifetime for your future career. We also understand that many families need help for filling in the gap between what they can afford and the resources needed to pay university education costs. NSU attaches a high priority to Financial Aid and the University has a standing commitment to meet the financial need of eligible students. The comprehensive FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM of North South University is administered by a high-powered Financial Assistance Committee, North South University. Apart from this, 234 Teaching Assistants (on campus student employment) have also been paid Tk. 38.01 lac in Spring 2011 based on campus student employment, which altogether stands Tk. 1.08 Crore as Financial Assistance only in Spring 2011 semester. In the way to help needy and meritorious students and for the socioeconomic development of the country, NSU has disbursed a significant amount of Tk. 26.85 Crore as financial assistance (excluding TA remuneration) since inception to Spring 2011 semester.

Payment of Fees

Students must pay the total amount of their semester tuition and fees on the day they register. NSU Accounts accepts bank-drafts or pay orders for the assessed amount payable to North SOUTH University. Personal checks are not accepted A late registration fee is assessed for students who register or pay their fees after the regular registration period. A student's obligation to pay regularly assessed tuition and fees is not reduced by an approval to defer payment. Students withdrawing from courses are eligible for refunds in accordance with the refund policy.

Withholding Student Records

The University withholds students' academic records for non-payment of tuition and fees and other appropriate charges or for not returning University property.

Admission Fee

The non-refundable Admission fee is assessed for admitted applicants following an admission test and before registration begins. An applicant forfeits the right of admission if the Admission Fee is not paid by the due date. Applicants are notified of such due dates by notice posted at NSU Registrar's Office

Student Activity Fee

The Student Activity Fee is due at the time of registration each semester the student is enrolled. This fee is used to support a broad range of student activities and interests.

Non-degree Students

The Admission Fee and other charges are assessed for non-degree students when they change status to degree candidates or when credits earned as a non-degree student are applied towards a degree from NSU.

Tuition

Tuition is due for registration at the beginning of each semester and is based upon the student's academic level (undergraduate or graduate) and the number of credits for which the student registers.

Lab Fee for CSC Courses

A Computer Laboratory Fee of Tk. 1000 is due at the time of registration in each semester a student enrolls for courses. An additional Computer Laboratory Fee of Tk 1000 is assessed for MIS 105 and CSC 135. This amount is added into the tuition fee for these courses, and may not be shown separately in a bill.

Withdrawal and Refunds

Applications for withdrawal from the University or from a course after the registration period is over, must be made in writing to the Department Chair or Program Director. Notification to an instructor is not adequate. In case of authorized withdrawals and changes in schedule/ registration (adds and drops) tuition will be adjusted as follows:

Through the last business day prior to the first day of classes: 100% refund Through the first week of classes: 70% refund Through the second and third week of classes: 50% refund After three weeks of classes: No refund

No adjustment is authorized for Admission or other assessed fees. In case of death of a student,adjustments will be made any time during the semester as authorized. Withdrawal as a result of serious illness or disabling accident will be subject to review by the University for possible variation from the policy described above. No adjustment will be made for a student who is facing academic difficulties, or who is suspended, dismissed or expelled for breach of the code of conduct.

Other Expenses

In addition to the applicable fees, students are required to purchase textbooks, instruments, and other personal equipment and supplies when needed for courses in the chosen curriculum.

Financial Aid reflects the University's commitment to a student community that is broadly diverse in terms of race, geography, gender, special skills and talent. NSU offers Financial Aid (Tuition waiver) under the provision of Private University Act 2010.  Student of NSU can also apply for Financial Aid in the following categories: Based on previous academic attainment and Admission Test result (Merit based Scholarship). Based on high academic attainment at NSU (Merit based tuition waiver). Based on financial NEED of a student (Waiver on Humanitarian grounds). Based on financial Need & Merit (Merit-Need based waiver). Based on two or more siblings studying together at NSU (Waiver for Siblings). In the form of Teaching Assistantship and Student Employment (Work-Study based). Who are eligible for Financial Aid at North South University? North South University awards financial aid in the form of full/partial tuition waiver only to the deserving students who achieve and maintain outstanding academic track records as mentioned below: ·         Undergraduate applicants securing 1st and 2nd position in the NSU admission test get full tuition waiver (100%). ·         GPA 5.00 (excluding 4th Subject) in either SSC or HSC and at least GPA 4.80 in the other (excluding 4th Subject) with satisfactory NSU Admission Test Performance. ·         Candidates who earn 7 'A's in O-level exams at a time and 3 'A's in A-level having satisfactory NSU Admission Test Score. ·         MBA and MPH applicants securing highest score in the NSU admission test are entitled to 50% tuition waiver upon admission. ·         NSU graduates, with CGPA 3.80 at Undergraduate level would be entitled to 50% tuition waiver upon his/her admission at any Graduate Program at NSU. ·         General students of NSU seeking financial aid must fulfill the minimum criteria i.e. the undergraduate students must complete minimum 9 credits and maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.75 and graduate students 3.25  with 6 Credits ·         Aid for Siblings: Financial assistance is also available for siblings i.e. if two brothers or two sisters or one brother and one sister, whatever may be the case, have been studying at NSU, they would be entitled to 25% tuition waiver each subject to eligibility and they must apply formally during usual aid process. However, students in all the above cases must apply for Financial Aid in proper way. The authority may review and change the above conditions from time to time. Continuation of getting such tuition waiver is subject to his/her academic performance and other financial aid policy of NSU as applicable. How will you maintain Financial Aid at NSU? Once you have been awarded financial aid, you must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress in your academic calendar at NSU in order to maintain your tuition waiver. As a general rules, Undergraduate/Graduate students are considered to hold satisfactory academic progress if they achieve and maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.75 (for undergraduate program) and 3.25 (Graduate Program) respectively. 100% financial aid recipients must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.25 or above. Students should also fulfill other conditions to enjoy financial aid. Financial Aid once discontinued, the student may reapply for financial aid as a fresh applicant. Financial Aid will automatically be renewed if s/he fulfills the criteria of Financial Aid requirements. Financial aid recipients can also apply for enhancement of their financial waiver. The Financial Aid recipients/awardees must contact with the Office of the Financial Aid in every semester during Advising/Registratiovn process. They must submit their Advising-Sheet every semester for necessary verification and adjustment of tuition waiver from the Accounts Office. Financial Aid of the students will automatically be renewed if s/he fulfills the criteria of Financial Aid requirements. The Cell review and verify the academic performance every semester against the aid criteria and coordinate with Accounts Office accordingly. When will you apply for Financial Aid and How? Applications for financial aid are invited from bonafide & eligible students of NSU in every Spring and Summer semester through well-circulated notification. Students seeking financial aid should apply in prescribed APPLICATION FORM available at Prime Bank Bashundhara Branch, Dhaka upon payment of Tk. 500.00 (five hundred) only. In Fall semester, no applications are invited from the student while academic progress and performance of the students are reviewed and evaluated. Application should be filled-up properly and submitted to the Financial Assistance Cell of the University with necessary/relevant documents within the deadline. Deadline for financial aid application is announced and notified in due time. Financial Aid Calendar Spring Semester (January to April)         : Applications are invited in 1st Week of January Summer Semester (May to August)        : Applications are invited in 1st Week of May Fall Semester (September to December)  :  Performance and eligibility are reviewed/evaluated   Financial Aid- "POLICIES & GUIDELINES" ·         The minimum eligibility for applying and to maintain financial aid, the Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.75 and Graduate students 3.25 ·         Undergraduate students must complete minimum 09 credits without non-credit course and Graduate students 06 credits to apply for financial assistance. ·         An Undergraduate financial aid recipient must register for at least 24 (Twenty four) credits and Graduate students 18 credits in a year with effect from the semester of his/her receiving financial assistance ·         If the Waiver Recipients withdraw any course or duly drop a semester, whatever may be the case, s/he would not get any benefit beyond the approved period for Financial Aid. That is, financial waiver would strictly be limited to 12 (twelve) semesters for students of all undergraduate programs except Bachelor in Pharmacy and Bachelor of Architecture, which is 8 (eight) semesters and 16 (sixteen) semesters respectively; For Graduate Program of MBA, this duration is 6 (six) semester, MS ECO, MS CSC/ETE/CEG, MDS, EMBA,MPH and EMPH, MA in English, MBT  is limited to 5 (five) semesters, with effect from the semester of his/her first admission. The financial aid would automatically be discontinued after this time bar. ·         Financial aid will discontinue with immediate effect if you are delinquent in any way or if your CGPA is less than the requirement or on completion of your required credits for degree. Also, the aid shall automatically discontinue for unauthorized absence in any semester by the student. In any case, revival of such assistance might be considered on receipt of fresh application from the student in due course. ·         Financial assistance shall not be extended to courses that are extra to the degree requirement. ·         Financial assistance may be extended for courses that are not part of the degree but pre-requisites for courses required for a degree i.e. MAT-112 and MAT-116. ·         Financial Aid would not be extended to 'Retake' any course i.e. if a student retakes any course, he would pay full tuition for that particular subject. 2. What are the minimum qualifications for Undergraduate Admission?

The minimum qualifications for admission into these programs are:

Academic Qualifications Second division in both SSC and HSC or a minimum GPA of 3.5 in both SSC and HSC exams. GCE O-Level and A-Level: O-level in five subjects with Average Grade Point of 2.5 or above and A-level in two subjects with Average Grade Point of 2.0 or above; in the scale of A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 & E=l. (One E is acceptable) Requirements may be changed anytime if there is a change in admission policy. Acceptable scores in NSU's admission test. Admission test will be waived for those who have got a minimum score of 1200 in SAT (Math + Critical Reading) and at least 213 on the Computer Based Test (CBT) or 79 on the Internet Based Test (IBT) or 550 in the regular Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), a minimum score of 5.5 in the IELTS. HSC/A-level (appeared) candidates may sit for the admission test on the basis of an undertaking that they will not be admitted unless they pass the HSC/A-level examinations with minimum GPA required for admission at NSU. 3. From where prospective students will get the admission form?

Application forms are available for Tk 800 from NSU Accounts Office at Plot 15, Block B, Bashundhara, Dhaka 1229. A complete application includes:

Filled out applicatoin form; four passport size photographs (attested*); clean copies of certificates and mark-sheets; two letters of recommendation/testimonial from previous institution; and Photocopy of National ID Card. * Photographs should be attested by first class gazzetted officer or Principal/Head of the Department of the last academic institution attended.

4. What are the topics of admission test?

A two-hours and thirty minutes Admission Test consisting of essay and multiple-choice questions in English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Critical Reasoning & General Knowledge will be held on a specified date. In addition, there will be a separate thirty-minutes test for the programs of Life Sciences Department, Pharmacy, and Achitecture. The Admission Test contains SSC/O-level math problems. Applicants are advised to revise their math skills.

5. What are the requirements for Undergraduate Programs?

Most courses are of 3 credits. A student is required to complete about 41 courses. To be eligible for a bachelor's degree students have to complete 124/126 credits. 15 credits or 5 courses are considered full load in one academic semester. Students capable of handling this load should be able to fulfill degree requirements in four years i.e. twelve regular semesters. There are three regular semesters in each academic year: spring, summer, and fall. Students who need to take extra Math and English courses to meet degree standards may require more than twelve regular semesters and more than 124 credits.

North South University

Introduction

North South University, the first private university in Bangladesh, was established more than 18 years ago by a group of philanthropists, industrialists, bureaucrats and academics. The government of Bangladesh approved the establishment of North South University in 1992 under Private University Act (PUA) 1992 (now replaced by PUA 2010). The university was formally inaugurated on 10 February 1993 by then Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is the Chancellor of NSU.

The Board of Trustees, the apex body which provides the overall policy guidelines and approves annual budget of the University, is headed by its Chairman. The Syndicate runs the administration of the University within the policy guidelines provided by BOT 2010.

The Vice Chancellor, as the chief executive and academic officer, along with the Pro Vice Chancellor, runs the university with the help of the following statutory bodies: Syndicate, Academic Council, Finance Committee, Curriculum Committee, Faculty Selection Committee, Degree Review Committee, Library Committee, Disciplinary Committee and Faculty Search Committee. All statutory bodies operate under the provision of the Statutes prepared within the framework of PUA 2010. The Registrar maintains the university records including admissions and examination results and keeps liaison with Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission (UGC) and other relevant authorities.

In addition to creation and dissemination of knowledge, its mission includes promotion of humanism and peace through higher education. To fulfill its mission, NSU applies five basic strategies: (1) it offers socially relevant academic programs/curricula which meet the needs of the students coming from different backgrounds and seeking different career goals; (2) it hires highly qualified and internationally experienced academics to teach those courses relevant to a changing environment; (3) NSU, through a rigorous selection process, admits only those students who demonstrate the potential to pursue and complete the programs of study they select; (4) it provides the necessary infrastructural facilities and logistic support and an environment conducive to teaching and learning and (5) it practices the principles of good governance that encourage academic freedom and faculty-governance.

NSU has the authority, under its Charter, to impart instruction and confer undergraduate and graduate degrees including PhD in all branches of arts and sciences, including engineering, agriculture, law and medicine. It also has the authority to grant diplomas, certificates and other academic distinctions. Currently, NSU offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in 26 subjects (14 Bachelor’s degrees and 12 Master’s degrees). Additional programs are under preparation in consultation with collaborating universities and NSU’s International Advisory Board.

The university follows the American system with all its distinctive features-semesters, credit hours, letter grades, one examiner system and so on. Its curricula, when first introduced, were reviewed by relevant departments of University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and University of California at Berkeley, USA, and duly approved by University Grants Commission. The academic programs are continually updated and adapted to meet the local needs.

Since joining NSU in 1993, Dr. Hafiz G. A. Siddiqi, the current Vice Chancellor, provided leadership in improving, expanding and diversifying various academic programs. NSU now has 234 core (fulltime) and 149 part-time faculty members. Core faculty members teach roughly 72% of the courses offered. All faculty members have higher degrees from reputable foreign universities, with over 90% holding degrees from British, American, Australian and Canadian universities. Visiting faculty members from foreign universities including US, Canadian and Australian universities also teach at NSU. It is very selective in recruiting teachers and admitting students. Its current student enrolment is about 15000.

The first freshman classes of January 1993 had 137 students enrolled in three Departments: Business Administration, Computer Science, and Economics. Departments of Environmental Studies (DES), English and General and Continuing Education (GCE) were founded in May 1997. The Master’s program in Economics was introduced in 1994. The MBA program was launched in Summer 1997. Master’s in Development Studies and Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering were introduced in 2002 while MS in Computer Science is being offered from Summer 2003. Bachelor’s in Architecture was introduced in Fall 2004. Master’s in English was launched in Spring 2005. Pharmacy (Undergraduate) and Executive MBA programs came into being in Spring 2006 and Master’s in Biotechnology and Master’s in Public Health programs were started in Summer 2006. BS in Biotechnology, BS in Microbiology and BS in Biochemistry programs were introduced in Spring 2007. Master in Public Policy and Governance (MPPG) opened in Fall 2008, BS in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and Master in Resources and Environmental Management (MREM) launched in Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 respectively. Recently the university launched Executive Master in Public Health (EMPH) during Summer 2010.

NSU’s first convocation was held on 18 December 1996 when Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed, Honorable President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of NSU, conferred degrees upon 96 graduates. In the 2nd (1998), 3rd (1999) and 4th (2000) Convocations, degrees were conferred by the then Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Hafiz G.A. Siddiqi as authorized by Chancellor Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed. In the 4th Convocation held on November 25, 2000, 165 graduates including the first batch of 45 MBA graduates were conferred degrees. The 5th Convocation on November 11, 2001 Professor Dr. lajuddin Ahmed, Honorable President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of NSU conferred degrees upon 203 graduates. The Chancellor conferred degrees upon 251 graduates at the 6th Convocation on November 2, 2002. In the 7th Convocation on 6 December 2003, 8th Convocation on 24 November 2004, 9th Convocation on 21 December 2005, 10th Convocation on 28 November 2006, 11th Convocation on 19 November 2007, 12th Convocation on 17 May 2009 and in the 13th Convocation on 9th January 2010 the numbers of graduates were 307, 375, 475, 518, 610, 1073, 726 respectively. In the 12th Convocation held on 17th May, 2009, honorable Educatin Minister, Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid & in the 13th Convocation held on 9th January, 2010, Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman, honorable President of The Peoples Republic of Bangladesh & Chencellor of NSU conferred degrees. In this 14th Convocation (2011) the Honorable Chancellor conferred degrees upon 1640 graduates thus bringing the total number of graduates produced by NSU to 6676. Most of these graduates are employed in national and multinational companies. Many are pursuing higher studies at renowned universities abroad.

Accreditation
NSU is fully accredited by the University Grants Commission, the only national accreditation authority in Bangladesh. Its Business School has applied for accreditation of South Asian Quality Improvement System (SAQS), an accrediting agency created by the Hyderabad-based AMDISA (Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia) with the technical help from EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System), Brussels and AACSBI, USA. The establishment of SAQS was largely funded by European Union. NSU has already got two of the senior Business School Professors trained in how to respond to the SAQS accreditation requirements. The B-School of NSU has almost completed the required Self-Assessment process. It is expected that the necessary Peer Review will be done by SAQS before the end of June 2010.

International Recognition
The credits obtained at NSU are accepted in most of the reputable universities of USA, Canada, Australia and other countries. NSU graduates are accepted in the Graduate programs of Harvard, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, and other well-known universities. Eight Economics graduates of NSU are studying for higher degrees at York University,

Canada, with scholarship provided by York University. NSU attracts foreign students from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, China, Japan, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kenya and Nigeria. In addition, under the Study Abroad and Group Exchange program, students from world-class universities of the USA and Canada such as Brown University, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Penn State University, Smith College, Mt. Holyoke College, Windsor University, York University, and other similar institutions attend summer semesters at NSU and transfer credits back to their parent institutions.
